If you’ve ever read Jane Austin’s Sense and Sensibility you’ll no doubt recall the three Dashwwod sisters – Elinor, Marianne and Margaret. My three daughters attended a Regency Ball just before Christmas in Winchester which was organised by Hampshire Regency Dancers.
During the evening they were photographed by Hampshire – the County Magazine and when asked for their names quick as a flash Emily (the oldest) introduced herself to the reporter as ‘Ellie Dashwood.’ Somehow, managing to keep straight faces my other two daughters played along and introduced themselves as Marianne and Maggie Dashwood respectively.
They thought no more of this little prank until the January issue of Hampshire appeared and they spotted their names in print on page 47 (see photo). Of course the reporter was almost probably playing along but it was fun all the same!
