The trouble with eBay is that it can be oh-so-addictive. Before you know it you’re up until 1am in the morning hoping to sell that exercise cycle you bought on a whim last year or maybe you’re bidding on that rare ‘Stones 94Â World Tour’ T-shirt.
There are of course a number of software programs around that will automatically track auctions for you providing regular progress reports for both sales and bids, some even place bids for you a few seconds before the auction closes (sniping).
One that’s been around for around for a while (and that I’d overlooked) is an excellent program called JBIDWATCHER and hey, it’s Open Source (in other words FREE)
Â

It’s cross platform so it will run on machines that support Java such as a Windows PC, Mac OS X and most Linux/Unix boxes. JBIDWATCHER can track dozens of eBay auctions for you with one minute refreshes, monitor your ‘Watch list’ and best of all execute those automated last-20 second bids so that you don’t have to show your hand! The icing on the cake is that the orange XML tab allows you to generate rss feeds for auctions which, as far as I’m aware eBay currently only support for custom searches.
The only pre-requisite is that Java needs to be on board but that’s also free and usually very easy to install (click here if you don’t have it or need to update).
The Windows PC download is here
The Mac OS X download is here.
If you are a Linux user it’s worth typing JBIDWATCHER into your favourite repositories as I’m sure I’ve seen it in Ubuntu and Linspire’s repos. otherwise you can download the source here
